Description

Overview

Anubias lanceolata (also known as Anubias barteri var. angustifolia or narrow leaf) is a tough, slow-growing aquatic plant with long, pointed leaves. It thrives in shaded areas and adds elegant structure to midground or background zones.

Key Features

  • Narrow, lanceolate leaves lasting 10–20 cm — ideal for compact aquascapes
  • Rhizome plant: attach to driftwood or rock; burying rhizome causes rot
  • Low-light tolerant, thrives in low- to mid-tech setups without CO₂
  • Robust, handles a wide range of conditions and tank inhabitants

Ideal Conditions

  • Temperature: 20–30 °C, pH: 5.5–9.0, moderate water hardness
  • Lighting: low to moderate — too much light may lead to algae on leaves
  • Nutrition: low demand; will benefit from root tabs or liquid fertilizers in nutrient-poor tanks

Planting & Care

  • Attach plant with thread, glue, or tie to hardscape — don’t bury the rhizome
  • Prune old leaves and divide rhizome to propagate new growth ― cut into 4–5 cm segments with a few leaves each
  • Keep in shaded areas; algae-eating shrimp/snails help maintain leaf health

Why Choose Anubias lanceolata?

  • Slow growth and hardy nature make it ideal for beginners
  • Versatile low-tech plant that adapts to various aquariums
  • Long leaves add elegant form and texture to midground layouts
  • Easy to propagate and reposition in aquascapes
